Student Internship Program
Internships with the Sacramento Police Department will expose students to professional and exciting law enforcement based careers within the City of Sacramento that promote academic, career, and personal development! Please note that all Student Internships are unpaid positions.

The Sacramento Police Department is currently accepting applications for college students who are interested in gaining valuable experience through unpaid internships related to the following areas:
- Dispatch/Communications
- Police Supply
- Investigations
- Police Administration
- Information Technology
- Journalism
- Fiscal
- Records Management
- Evidence Collection
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must be currently enrolled in college
- Must maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher
- Must be at least JUNIOR class level
- Must have a valid driver's license
- NO adult or juvenile disqualifying criminal convictions
- Must have an interest in law enforcement
- Submit two letters of recommendation with application
- Submit evidence of internship approval from your college with application
- Agree to a minimum one year commitment with the Department unit you are assigned
PROCESS
- Application (submitted with identified area of interest)
- Application review
- Complete a pre-selection interview
- Complete background questionnaire(s)
- Agree to a background investigation (including DOJ screening initiated via Background Investigations Unit)
- Final selection and/or interview
TRAINING
- All training will be on-the-job training and will be conducted by each individual unit/section
