Reverse 911 Program

The Sacramento Police Department has implemented a Commuity Emergency Notification System, also known as Reverse 911. In the event of an emergency, the system will automatically call listed and unlisted telephone numbers within an affected area and deliver a message describing the emergency.

Reverse 911 allows the police to rapidly notify residents and businesses by telephone to give public safety information about missing persons, street closures, weather related safety information, etc. If phone lines are busy, the system will attempt to redial those numbers and make contact. If an answering machine picks up the call, the emergency message will be left on the machine.

On the Horizon

Cellular and VoIP Reverse 9-1-1 will be made available to the residents of Sacramento in the near future. While phone numbers can be outside of the city of Sacramento, citizens must enter a valid address within the city limits.
